Breast cancer affects around one in eight women, making it the most common cancer worldwide. In Germany alone, around 70,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. Worldwide, more than 600,000 women die every year as a result of the disease. This is a shocking figure and a serious health challenge that we as a society must face up to. It is important to understand that around 85% of the diseases occur without a family connection. Unfortunately, this also shows that, in principle, every woman is at risk, regardless of her genetic history. Studies by the World Health Organization (WHO) have shown that between 30 and 50% of cancers could be avoided through prevention. Our own studies, which are in line with studies from abroad, show that around 80% of women in the general population are not sufficiently informed about breast cancer. In addition, according to the latest studies, the WHO expects cancer cases to increase by 77% by 2050. Time to act!
We are orimus GmbH - a small start-up with a big goal: the long-term reduction of new cases of breast cancer worldwide through better education, awareness and prevention. This is why we launched the "Breastinform" campaign. The campaign's guiding principle is ABC: Aware, Beware and Care.
Aware stands for "Awareness", i.e. raising awareness of the issue of breast cancer. The aim is to sensitize women to breast cancer and provide them with comprehensive information. Individual risk factors can be easily determined using a specially developed risk calculator.
Beware is intended to show ways of minimizing calculated risk factors using simple methods and thus permanently reducing the personal risk of breast cancer.
The final aim of Care is to actively support breast health. Instructions for self-examination, possible symptoms and common treatment options are presented in a detailed and understandable way. Unique reporting functions help to efficiently discuss possible findings of a self-examination with a medical professional.
We are convinced that early detection and the resulting preventive measures can help to avoid many cases of breast cancer in the long term.
