Breast health is not the responsibility of one person.
It is a responsibility of all of us - for all of us.
Many people initially think of breast cancer screening only in terms of mammograms.
These are extremely important from a certain age, but they are only a small part of a balanced screening program.
Good screening offers much more:
What is breast cancer and why does it develop?
What are the risk factors and how can I minimize them?
How does a mammogram work and what happens during surgery?
Do cell phones, bras and deodorants increase the risk of breast cancer?
How do I examine my breasts properly and what treatment options are there?
Questions upon questions - Breastinform provides answers.
Now back to the original question: Why is prevention so important?
The easiest way to explain this is with figures:
1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer on average.
This currently equates to almost 70,000 women in Germany - every year.
Worldwide, more than 680,000 women died from breast cancer in 2020.
Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women worldwide (approx. 2.3 million cases).
According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the number of cases of cancer is increasing worldwide.
While around 20 million new cancer diagnoses were made in 2022, the number is expected to rise
by 77 percent to 35 million per year by 2050.
These are the bare facts. But there is also good news:
Only 5-10% of breast cancer cases are hereditary, meaning 90% can actively influence their risk.
A healthy and conscious lifestyle can significantly reduce the risk of breast cancer.
Early detection of breast cancer can improve the chances of survival.
Breast cancer is often more treatable in its early stages.
As you can see, we should act today to prepare for tomorrow.
The earlier we start taking prevention seriously and implementing it, the better off we'll all be in the future.
This is not the responsibility of just one person. This is a responsibility of all of us - for all of us.
